First photographs of the 4 stroke MZ

Here are the first photographs of the 4 stroke MZ machine which will contest the MotoGP World Championship. The German factory presented their MotoGP 02 model last Friday in Leipzig, where Ralf Waldmann was confirmed as the surprise choice to partner José Luis Cardoso as this season's riders.

Few statistics have yet been released, but the engine is definitely a 990cc V4. Dyno tests predict top speeds of 300km/h and around 220bhp at 17,200rpm. Other features include a digital injection system, whilst the bike weighs in at 142 kilos and can take up to 24 litres of fuel.

From an aerodynamic and aesthetic point of view, the most notable feature is the fuel tank, which is joined together in a single piece with the seat and tail. Also noteworthy is the width of the bike, which is highlighted by the huge front fairing.

MZ claim that their MotoGP prototype will be ready to begin testing in May and will make its Grand Prix debut at the Gauloises Dutch TT at Assen on the 29th June.
