Suzuki continue intense testing schedule at Eastern Creek

The Telefonica Movistar Suzuki squad today pressed ahead with the next stage of their intense preseason testing schedule at the Australian circuit of Eastern Creek. XRE0 riders Kenny Roberts and Sete Gibernau are riding fresh off the back of their first full test on the 4 stroke machine at Sepang and will head to Phillip Island in a weeks time before returning to Europe to finalise their preparations for the new season.

The track has not hosted a Grand Prix since 1996, but Team Manager Garry Taylor is satisfied that it meets the squad's requirements at this stage: 'The track is a little bumpy through the corners but it is still a good circuit and this is a good opportunity for our riders to continue to get a feel for the XRE0,' he said. 'The times mean nothing to us - partly because we are not focusing on them just yet but also because 500 lap times have advanced so much over the last few seasons that it would be impossible to make any comparisons.'

Freak weather conditions and unusual logistical problems have impeded the team's progress on the first day, but Taylor insists that they are looking towards Phillip Island as the next major stage of their development: 'I think they've had more rain here in a week than they usually do in three months, so the boys weren't able to complete a full day in the circuit. I think Kenny got through about 30 laps and Sete a bit less, so we have got some work done on wet set-up. The problem is that it is Chinese New Year at the moment so trying to get from Malaysia to Australia was a bit of a headache. To make things worse a Dunlop container carrying all the wet tyres got held up in customs!'
