Carlos Lavado returns to the track to become nephew`s manager

Carlos Lavado, the Venezuelan former 250cc double world champion, is moving to Italy to take on the role of manager to his nephew, Juan Carlos, who will compete in the recently created Yamaha R-6 Max Cup. He will ride for the Pirelli team who are based in Lugo di Romagna, the same place that the Venemotos-Yamaha team, with whom his uncle achieved the majority of his successes, were based for three years.

The move means that Carlos Lavado now has the opportunity to return to Europe with a Venezuelan rider, one of the goals he set himself when he set up the Yamaha TZM 150cc Cup in his home country in 1999, however few would have imagined he´d be accompanying his 21 year-old nephew.

´I have to admit that the most surprised person was me. Juan Carlos has scarcely been riding for two years and has only competed in about a dozen races. When he started he didn´t even know how to set up a bike. It´s been a really pleasing development and now we´re entering a new phase with the intention of making it back to the World Championship´, commented the former world champion.

The rounds of the Yamaha R-6 Max Cup will be held at Misano, Monza, Mugello, Imola and Vallelunga.
