Biaggi and Checa complete first day of tests in Mugello

Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa today completed the first day of testing at the Italian circuit of Mugello, where the Marlboro Yamaha squad will be based until this Sunday. The test will be used to eliminate problems encountered with the 4 stroke M1 at recent IRTA sessions in Valencia and Estoril.

Over the four days Biaggi and Checa will experiment with a new chassis and several engine parts, with the objective of improving the machine's performance in the corners in order to fully exploit the power of the 4 stroke engine. On the first day the two riders have lapped with the same set-up they used in Estoril, comparing feedback from the two circuits in an attempt to get to the root of the bike's problems.

The pair are hoping weather forecasts predicting rain do not come to fruition, although heavy clouds hanging over the picturesque venue today suggest otherwise. Test rider John Kocinski has not travelled to Italy but he will attend the next scheduled IRTA test at the Circuito de Catalunya on the 9th and 10th March.
