Porto satisfied with the progress of his Yamaha

Argentine 250cc rider Sebastián Porto, who will be riding for the Yamaha Petronas Sprinta TVK team, has returned to his homeland for a few days rest after completing his pre-season testing work at the Montmelo circuit in Catalunya.

Porto, who will fly to Malaysia in a couple of days for his team´s official presentation ceremony, has pronounced himself very satisfied with the work carried out at the various IRTA tests, and especially so with the last session his team had at the Circuit of Catalunya. ´The team has improved the bike following the feedback I gave them after the IRTA tests in Jerez and Estoril, and the modifications made to the front suspension have really worked well. We just need to try and improve the engine a little more now.´

The 23 year-old Argentine revealed that he did not expect to finish his pre-season work lapping so close to the times of Marco Melandri, who was quickest in Catalunya. ´To be honest, I thought that in Catalunya we would be further behind the Aprilia because it's a quick circuit. That wasn´t the case, and I´m convinced that we´ll arrive at the first Grand Prix of the season in good shape. The team has done a great job and that has really reassured me.´

Porto ended sixteenth in the 250cc championship last year. His best finishes in the quarter-litre category have been ninth place finishes in both 1999 and 2000.
