Japanese MotoGP riders attend ´2002 Party´ in build up to season

The World Championship is now just days away and the excitement is beginning to build in Japan, where the first Grand Prix of the season takes place on April 7. Last weekend several riders attended the World Sports Café in Tokyo to take part in the ´MotoGP 2002 Party´, and were greeted by hundreds of fans.

The party was organised by Dorna Japan and gave local fans the opportunity to have direct contact with their favourite riders, such as Norick Abe, Shinya Nakano and Daijiro Katoh. The public were able to chat with their heroes, play on the MotoGP2 game on the PlayStation, pick up souvenirs and watch big screen footage of the recent IRTA tests at Catalunya.

Also in Japan recently, current 250cc World Champion Daijiro Katoh was awarded with the award for Sporting Merit by the Minister for Culture. The prize was in recognition for Katoh's contribution to sport in Japan and his record breaking season in the quarter-litre class in 2001. `I am happy and satisfied with this recognition,´ said Katoh. `It is nice to think that my efforts have helped bring our sport to people in my country.´
