Reigning champion Poggiali ready to open his title defence

Manuel Poggiali claimed his first world title last year in what was widely regarded as one of the most exciting 125 championship races in recent memory, and the young Gilera rider will line up once again in MotoGP´s smallest category this season to defend his crown. Undoubtedly the San Marino based star will start the season as favourite to repeat his success, but with last term´s runner-up Youichi Ui sure to be heading the list of potential challengers, Poggiali is taking nothing for granted as he prepares to launch this term´s campaign at the Grand Prix of Japan in Suzuka on April 7th.

´I will be ready for the first race of the season in Japan. The pre-season testing we have done has gone well, at our last test in Catalunya I went fast but I also managed to achieve a lot of laps at the same level which was very good. This is result of the excellent work my team has put in over the winter,´ stated the 19 year-old. ´I feel confident as we have worked hard to improve the bike from last year and the changes we have made seem to have paid off. I´m looking forward to the race in Suzuka, the important thing is to ride well and get a good start to the season. I know it won´t be easy as there are many good riders in the championship, but I aim to win the championship again.´
