Youichi Ui aiming to get his season back on track in Welkom

Derbi rider Youichi Ui, is looking to claim his first victory of the season in Welkom this weekend, and erase the memory of the problems he suffered at the first Grand Prix of 2002 in Suzuka. Last year the Japanese rider claimed the first of the six wins he recorded during the season in Welkom, and headed to the following meeting in Jerez as championship leader. In 2000 a fall deprived him of the chance of victory at the South African circuit, and the year before he ended up seventh there.

Ui is hoping that the problems of Suzuka don´t repeat themselves in Welkom. ´In Suzuka everything was very complicated once the rain came, it became a bit of a lottery and unfortunately we didn´t have any luck. I hope that in Welkom things are much different, as it is a circuit that I like. The key will be finding a good set-up as quickly as possible and then posting a fast lap, because with the reduction of time in our qualifying sessions, errors are now much more costly. What is certain is that we can´t afford let our rivals get any further ahead´.
