Repsol Honda one-two in Welkom consolidates top spot in team race

The victory of Tohru Ukawa and second place secured by Valentino Rossi at last weekend´s Grand Prix in Welkom ensured that the Repsol Honda outfit strengthened their position at the top of the inaugural Team Championship table. The Japanese factory team now has a total of 70 points, and is comfortably clear in the provisional standings.

There has though been a change in second place in the table. Marlboro Yamaha have now overtaken West Honda Pons who only managed the 16 points collected from the third place finish of Loris Capirossi, whilst the Yamaha team claimed a total of 18 from Checa´s fourth and Biaggi´s ninth. Behind them come the Antena 3 Yamaha d´Antin set-up who have consolidated fourth spot ahead of Fausto Gresini´s Honda outfit.

The Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 team broke their season´s duck in South Africa and occupy sixth place. Eleven out of the twelve teams competing in the championship have now scored points, with the only exception being Telefonica Movistar Suzuki who cannot claim the points from Akiro Ryo´s second place finish in Suzuka due to him being a wildcard rider.
