Bautista, Molina, Tomás and Sardá take first wins of CEV Fortuna 2002

Álvaro Bautista (Aprilia, 125cc), Álvaro Molina (Yamaha, 250cc), David Tomás (Honda, Supersport) and Josep Sardà (Yamaha, Fórmula Xtreme) yesterday became the first winners of the CEV Fortuna 2002 season, in the opening round of the Spanish Championship series at the Albacete circuit. Team Atlético de Madrid rider, Álvaro Bautista, took advantage of stop and go penalties for Héctor Barberá and Julio Simón and snatched victory from Italian Fabrizio Lai by just .058 seconds.

In the quarter-litre class Molina took the honours ahead of World Championship riders Raúl Jara and Héctor Faubel, both on RFME Team Aprilias. Tomás emerged victorious from a crash-strewn Supersport event after race leader Javier del Amor fell and Agustín Escobar slid out of the resultant battle for top spot. Finally, in the first ever European round of the Formula Xtreme series former Grand Prix rider Josep Sardà took victory from pole setter Eduard Ullastres and Daniel Oliver.
