Sachsenring begin anniversary celebrations with book launch

On the 26th of May the Sachsenring commemorates its 75th anniversary, and the celebrations are already in full swing with the launch of a book dedicated to the illustrious history of one of the most famous circuits in Europe. "Drivers of a legendary circuit - 75 years of Sachsenring" tells the story of a track which held it first motorcycle race back in 1927 and over the last few years has re-established its reputation as one of the most important fixtures on the MotoGP calendar.

With a foreword written by Valentino Rossi, the book features an A-Z of riders past and present with colour photographs in action at the various motorcycle events which have been held there since 1927. The restart of the Sachsenring race after the war in 1949 highlighted the continual enthusiasm for the sport in Germany whilst from 1961 until 1972 the Sachsenring wrote history as it hosted the FIM Road Racing World Championship. A new circuit saw the return of MotoGP on the 19th of July 1998 and further modifications have been made since then. The launch of the book will be followed up on the day of the anniversary by festivities at the circuit itself, including a lap of honour on the old and new tracks with riders and motorcycles past and present.
