Daniel Pedrosa confirms his status amongst title contenders

Young Spanish rider Daniel Pedrosa has joined a select group of riders who, after the first quarter of the season, are genuinely fighting for the 125cc World Championship crown. The podium he secured at Le Mans last weekend, his second of the season, has given definitive confirmation that the pupil of Alberto Puig is ready to join the trio of Vincent, Poggiali and Cecchinello who lead him the standings, in battling for this term´s World Championship title.

These top four riders are the only competitors who have managed to make it on to the podium more than once, and of them, Pedrosa and Vincent are the only two to have scored in every round. Pedrosa has so far produced an eighth in Suzuka, a fourth in Jerez and the two thirds in both Welkom and Le Mans.

The 16 year-old Spaniard does not want to think about talk of the title yet though, and he knows exactly what is required of him this season especially after his latest podium performance in Le Mans. ´In Jerez I wasn't able to make it on to the podium after a slight mechanical problem with the bike, but in Le Mans things were different. It was a good result, but there are still people ahead of us, and the goal must be to keep ourselves in the top positions throughout the year.´
