Exemplary statistics for Aprilia in Mugello

Aprilia riders in the quarter-litre class have set an exemplary standard at the Mugello circuit in past seasons. The track, which this weekend plays host to the Gran Premio Cinzano d´Italia, is used by the Italian factory for testing and has been the scene of many of their triumphs since the World Championship returned there in 1992.

Pole position has been set by an Aprilia machine on each and every occasion. Pier Francesco Chili was the first man to do so in 1992 and Tetsuya Harada set a new record there last season. The Japanese rider also set the best ever pole at Mugello in the MotoGP class, riding the Aprilia V-twin in 1999.

In terms of victories, representatives of the Noale firm have taken five of the last seven available wins at this circuit, whilst before that the glory belonged to the Hondas of Cadalora, Capirossi and Waldman. In 1995 Max Biaggi handed Aprilia their first home win and repeated the feat one year later. His success was followed by Lucchi in 1998, Rossi in 1999 and Harada last season, with Nakano giving Yamaha their only victory there in 2000.
