Simone Sanna looks forward to his genuine ´home´race

When the 125cc race gets underway in Mugello this weekend, there will be 14 riders in the field who will have the supposed advantage of racing ´at home´.However this phrase can without doubt be applied to Simone Sanna, born in Borgo San Lorenzo, just a few kilometres from the famous Mugello circuit. Sanna who rides for the TU Racing outfit already has one career victory under his belt at the Italian circuit. That success came in 1998, when competing in the Italian Championship, and in the three World Championship meetings in which he has competed at Mugello, he has demonstrated his knowledge of the circuit by taking two top five finishes, in 1999 and 2001. In 2000 he wasn't able to finish the race due to mechanical failure.

The Tuscan rider spoke to motograndprix.com about his hopes for Sunday´s race. ´It´s without doubt an important race for me. At the moment we´re going well in the championship, and riding at Mugello really is like a home race. To be honest, we´ve had a few problems with the bike so far, but I´m sure that by the race on Sunday we will have found the solutions.´

Regarding the rest of the season, Sanna stated; ´My aim is to finish the championship in the top three, it´s going to be difficult, and it´s a goal I can only achieve with excellent consistent performances. However, I believe that this year the true title contenders have yet to really emerge, the race for the title is still wide open and anything could yet happen.´
