Mick Doohan analyses a great day for Yamaha

Today was slightly different to what we have become used to this season with Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi riding very well and proving that the Yamaha is here. I think the dark clouds hanging over Mugello this afternoon probably persuaded them to push hard for a fast time in case it rains tomorrow and it made for some great action for the fans who had turned up today.

I think without doubt Honda will be back in the thick of things tomorrow, with this having been their first day at the circuit with the new four stroke. Valentino Rossi will be challenging for pole again and I wouldn´t rule out the two stroke Hondas causing an upset also. The performance of the day came from John Hopkins, who rode excellently to seventh spot on the grid on the Red Bull Yamaha
