- Valentino Rossi's pole position lap time is the fastest ever official lap of the Mugello circuit by a motorcycle.
- The top eight riders on the grid have qualified faster than last years´ pole position time set by Valentino Rossi.
- Valentino Rossi starts from pole position for the fifth successive race for the first time in his Grand Prix career. Rossi won on a 125 at Mugello in 1997 and on a 250 in 1999. If he was to win the MotoGP race he would become the first rider to have won in all three classes at the Mugello circuit.
- Tohru Ukawa's top speed of 324.5 km/hr (201.6 mph) is a new official maximum speed record in Grand Prix racing, after Regis Laconi became the first to crack the 200 mph barrier in the new MotoGP class earlier in the final qualifying session.
- Regis Laconi's fifth place on the grid is his best qualifying result in the new MotoGP class for both himself and the new Aprilia four-stroke machine.
