The race at Mugello was very good for me. The qualifying session was probably my worst of the season but Dunlop found us some good tyres for the race and after around five or six laps I found a good rhythm and was able to close in on the lead group. I was in the fight for third place with Battaini until he went off track and for some reason I began to lose time until Fonsi Nieto passed me on the last lap. It was disappointing but I was satisfied with fifth place because I certainly wouldn´t have expected it in qualifying.

I think I have made a lot of progress this year in terms of setting the bike up. I have a lot more experience and this gives me more confidence. I do not doubt myself. Previously I had spent three years in the same team and we were going round in circles. In order to progress I had to move on and this year things have worked out well. I have three great mechanics and this is a great source of motivation.

I was aiming to finish the season in the top five in the World Championship, although with the results I have had so far I think third place is within my capabilities. Evidently I am still looking for my first win, but this year the most important thing is to demonstrate that I can finish consistently in the top places. I would prefer to finish third twice than to go all out for victory and end up crashing out. If I do get the chance to fight for that win then I will do so, but I will play my cards carefully.

Fifth place at Mugello is still a little disappointing, because I am not the sort of person to give up easily. The way I look at it now though is as motivation for my fight for the podium in Barcelona!
