Crivillé receives first tribute of Grand Prix weekend

Former 125 and 500cc World Champion, Alex Crivillé today took part in the first of a number of events to honour him during this weekend´s Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya. A commemorative plaque of the Spaniard has been put up in the ´Avenue of Champions´ at the Montmelo circuit which was opened in his presence today. The ´avenue´is situated behind the grandstand of the start-finish straight, and will incorporate other champions from the worlds of both two and four wheel racing.

The former World Champion was clearly touched by the first tribute of what promises to be an emotional weekend. ´I´m delighted to be the first entrant into this ´Avenue of Champions´. This has been a really special moment, and the first of a weekend which I´m sure is going to be very intense and emotional for me. The plaque is really beautiful, and includes a dedication which I made to the fans when I became World Champion.´

On Saturday Crivillé will receive the Honda NSR500 on which he won the World Championship in 1999. The Spaniard will then perform a lap of the Catalan circuit on it on Sunday, prior to the warm-up sessions to say goodbye to the fans. Then, before the MotoGP race, the man from Seva will go back out to complete another lap of the track, this time in an open-topped car to bid a final goodbye.
