Poggiali claims pole at the last

Manuel Poggiali clinched the 125 pole at the last moment, recovering it after Pablo Nieto had stolen ahead of him. The Gilera rider had remained in top spot throughout the session, and only lost his advantage once the chequered flag had waved as Nieto surpassed him. However Poggiali was completing his final lap at the time, and eventually went on to better the Spaniard´s mark by some two tenths of a second.

For the majority of the session, the San Marino rider had secured his place at the top of the time sheets, and twice bettered his times to move further ahead of his rivals. The first rider to challenge him was Pedrosa some five minutes from the end. The Spaniard though nearly fell in trying to better Poggiali having got to within six hundredths, and from then on it was Pablo Nieto and Steve Jenkner who launched a late attack, with Pedrosa ending up fourth.

Lucio Cecchinello qualified fifth ahead of the Derbi bikes of Ui in sixth, and young Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo who took an impressive seventh with an almost identical time, in what was undoubtedly his best result since he made his debut in the class at Jerez. Simone Sanna completes tomorrow´s second row line-up.
