Scalvini returns to familiar stomping ground

On Friday a familiar face returned to the MotoGP paddock at the Circuit of Catalunya. Giamluigi Scalvini, who is a seasoned 125cc campaigner, got the call from the Bossini Sterilgarda Racing team to take the place of the injured Max Sabbatani, who suffered a nasty accident at the Gran Premio Cinzano D´Italia two weeks ago.

´I´ve already ridden for this team in the past, and won races for them, so when they called me to compete in this race I asked the team to whom I am contracted, Yamaha Belgarda, to allow me to race. I could only confirm my appearance here on Thursday, once I´d been given permission.´

Regarding Sunday´s race, Scalvini was eagerly looking forward to the chance to line-up on the 125 grid again. ´It´s like being part of the gang again, and I´m really happy. To be honest, the time I´ve spent away from the World Championship scene has meant I´ve lost a bit of my racing edge at the top level, but it´s just a question of getting back in the groove. I can only improve over the weekend because you never lose experience.´On the length of his stay with the team, the Italian said, ´The most important thing, and what we´re all hoping, is that Max recovers quickly and gets back on his bike. The agreement wth the team is to ride the bike until they no longer need me´.
