Marco Melandri donates Spiderman regalia to charity

Marco Melandri this week took part in a charity auction organised by the humanitarian group Emergency, donating the Spiderman outfit and apparatus he sported at Mugello last month. The helmet, leathers, gloves, boots, motorcycle fairing and even his paddock scooter were all handed over to the charity and are currently open to bidders via the internet. The opening bids were screened live at the event and submissions will be accepted online until the 15th June. All benefits will be go directly to Emergency, who plan to use the proceeds for humanitarian projects in Afghanistan.

`It is a special day and an important cause which I have a lot of belief in,´ commented Melandri, who has collaborated with the organisation for three years. `Today we are a long way from the sound of motorcycles at a time of great importance for the humanitarian objectives of Emergency. I would like that all these items, which helped me towards victory at Mugello, can help alleviate the suffering for people who are not as fortunate as ourselves. On the track we have a lot of worries – about technical matters or bike set-up – but away from this world there are many people whose fundamental worry is how to survive. I hope these pieces and gadgets make the collectors happy but I would be happier still if the proceeds can actively sustain Emergency in their objective to provide help for the suffering´.
