Melandri stronger than ever after fourth win in a row

Melandri stronger than ever after fourth win in a row

By claiming another victory in Donington Park, Marco Melandri consolidates his lead in the 250 Championship, and now appears as the class´ man to beat. Melandri seems eager to follow his mentor´s footstep : he may not equal Valentino Rossi results´ yet, but this weekend, he managed to take up the challenge of completing a four consecutive wins streak on the eight round of the season. It was the first time the italian achieved this feat, but it hasn´t been that easy, as he never won on the track he doesn´t like. Before this weekend, his best result on the Derbyshire class was a third place gained last year.

At the start of the race, Melandri remained behind the argentinian Sebastian Porto, early leader after a blazing start and desperate to take a good result on his 100th GP appearance. He wasn´t able to produce the success expected as he had to retire on a mechanical failure. Then Melandri took the lead ahead of Fonsi Nieto, his main rival in the title fight. The Spaniard hasn´t been able to prevent Melandri´s winning move on the last lap, after a brief spell in the lead. ´It was a really tough, but fantastic race - it´s not easy task keeping such a fast pace for 27 laps here at Donington´ explained a delighted Melandri.

Widely tipped as the favourite this year, Melandri took the lead of the Championship for the first time a fortnight ago, in Assen... and now he´s unlikely to let it slip away. ´Now we´re all concentrating on next week´s race at the Sachsenring: that´s where I got my first win in the 250 class, which I really love. I´m just hoping I can keep up the good results I´ve been getting in this fantastic period in my career´.
