Melandri wins a rain-interrupted race

Marco Melandri took a fifth consecutive win in Germany, in a race interrupted by the rain on the 23rd lap. Melandri and his fellow Italian Roberto Rolfo have been battling for the lead all race long. The Honda rider has been leading until Melandri´s charge on the 19th lap, while the clouds were coming.

Well aware of the risk of rain, Rolfo stroke back and put pressure on Melandri. The Aprilia rider crashed on the 23rd lap, a few seconds before the red flag was raised because of the rain. Behind the two italians, Sebastian Porto took his first career podium on his 100th GP appearance in the quarter litre class. Fonsi Nieto took fourth ahead of Roberto Locatelli and Toni Elias.

With this win, Melandri increases his lead over Fonsi Nieto to 25 points, while Roberto Rolfo consolidates his third position in the World Championship standings, 20 points behind the Spaniard.
