Guintoli relishes first MotoGP challenge

When the World Championship resumes after the summer break, a third French rider will join the MotoGP pack : Sylvain Guintoli, who will race his first ever Grand Prix in the blue riband class. Earlier this year, he joined the Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 team as their official test rider. He will have the opportunity to race the Gauloises Czech Republic Grand Prix as a wildcard, aboard his YZR500 bearing the number 50.

As he shares testing duties with Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano for Tech 3, he hasn´t raced a Grand Prix since the last season. Finally, his sacrifices are rewarded : ´That´s great. So far, as a third rider, I already have covered a lot of miles, and the next step is to race my first Grand Prix´.

This experience as a third rider allowed him to get used to the YZR500 Yamaha ; then, his biggest challenge in Brno will be to get used to the pace. ´Since the beginning of the year, I had the opportunity to do a lot of testing, working on the set-up and with Michelin, so I´m quite comfortable with the bike. The most complicated will be to get to grips with the pace. It won´t be easy of course, but that´s what the sport is all about´. $$$

In 2001, as a rider from the Equipe de France Grand Prix, he classified 13th in the Czech round of the 250 World Championship. He looks forward coming back to Brno aboard his Yamaha 500. ´I really liked the track. It hadn´t been easy, as I crashed several times over the week-end, but I had a good race. I love this kind of track, like the Mugello and Assen, and there, with the 500, it should be amazing !´.

At the moment, Sylvain enjoys the summer break at home, in France. ´I´m on holyday since the Sachsenring´ race. I am at home, in Romans, and I spend time with friends and my family. So all I do now is chilling out and having rest, but I will resume my training as soon as next week to be fit in Brno´.
