Ui hoping to repeat end of 2001

Youichi Ui arrives at the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky this weekend hoping to repeat the second half of the season he produced one year ago. A disappointing haul of just 54 points in the first half of the season has left the Derbi rider in ninth position in the rider standings and he his hoping for a turn in fortunes, starting with a positive result at Brno.

Last season the Japanese veteran clocked up 86 points over the first nine races and an astonishing 146 over the remaining seven. This form, which culminated in four straight wins in the final four races, took him to within a whisker of the title . Now he wants to repeat that effort, although admits that it may be too late for a title challenge: ´I am sure that things will go better for me over the next seven races than they have up to now,´ he explains. `I would like to end the championship in the same way as last year when I won four races on the trot. We are travelling to circuits which I like a lot and which have gone well for me so I hope that this year is no exception. With the points disadvantage as it is I can´t really talk about the title although stranger things have happened. I just have to go out to win every race and hope that luck is on my side´.
