Melandri makes it six in a row and increases Championship lead

Marco Melandri won his sixth consecutive victory of the season in Brno, and by doing so, steadily increased his Championship lead. Roberto Rolfo and Fonsi Nieto challenged the Italian for victory, but they both went wide in the last laps. Only Fonsi Nieto was able to recover with five laps to go, and eventually finished in fourth. Rolfo crashed out on the penultimate lap while he was fighting for the lead.

Fonsi and Rolfo´s mistakes allowed Sebastian Porto to take his second consecutive podium and Toni Elias to finish on the rostrum for the third time this year. Fonsi took the chequered flag only a few tenths behind his team mate, while Casey Stoner finished at the fifth spot after a steady race.

By winning the race while his main opponents were deprived of a podium finish, Melandri is leading the Championship by 37 points over Fonsi, and 68 points over Rolfo. Elias is now fourth and Porto fifth. There´s still 150 points to be taken, but Melandri has now a comfortable lead and equalled Spencer's consecutives wins record.
