Melandri continues to make history

Marco Melandri yesterday took another step up the historical ladder as he extended his run of consecutive wins in the 250 class. The Italian´s sixth victory on the trot at Brno was also his seventh of the season and moved him above Berndt Haas and Carlo Ubbiali in the all-time ranking of consecutive wins in the class. The Aprilia man now stands alongside Freddie Spencer in second place.

If Melandri could continue his streak for another three races he could equal the all-time record set by Mike Hailwood and Anton Mang. The 19 year old´s form this year is consistent, having won seven out of ten races, finishing second once and crashing out twice (Suzuka and Jerez).

As well as making his mark in the history books, Melandri left Brno having also made an important step towards the future. With Fonsi Nieto and Roberto Rolfo both failing to make the podium, the Italian has 37 points more than the Spaniard and 68 more than his compatriot with just six races remaining.
