Simoncelli the latest youngster off the Italian production line

Marco Simoncelli is the latest youngster to come off the Italian production line and into World Championship racing. The 15 year old made his Grand Prix debut at Brno on Sunday riding the CWF-Matteoni Racing Aprilia left vacant by Jaroslav Hules and finished the race in 27th after a tussle with highly-rated compatriots Michel Fabrizio and Mattia Angeloni.

Simoncelli has been confirmed as a replacement for Hules until the end of the season and will use the education as preparation for next year, when he is likely to join the ranks of full-time riders. Born on the 20th January 1987 in Cattolica, Simoncelli began racing minimotos at nine years of age and won the national title in 1999 and 2000, when he also finished runner-up in the European series. Last season he stepped up to the 125cc Italian Championship and he currently lies second in the European Championship with one victory and two second places to his name.
