First and foremost I have to congratulate Max Biaggi for an excellent race and victory at Sepang against the Honda RC211V machines of Rossi, Barros and Ukawa. Even in qualifying I think the Italian showed that he was a firm candidate for the victory. At the same time you have to consider that the Honda four-stroke guys were suffering from serious clutch problems.

Shinya Nakano deserves a mention after finishing sixth on his first outing with the Yamaha M1. He had very little previous experience of the bike but he made good progress throughout the weekend and topped it off with an excellent race.
