Destiny calling for Vincent and Poggiali

Destiny calling for Vincent and Poggiali

The day of reckoning looms large for the 125cc World Championship as Arnaud Vincent leads Manuel Poggiali into the final round of the season by a frail eight points. Vincent saw his lead slashed by twelve points in Australia as he finished fourth in a race won by Poggiali, but knows he will be crowned World Champion if he finishes first or second at Valencia on Sunday.

It promises to be a fierce battle of tactics around the tight and twisty Ricardo Tormo circuit, which saw Poggiali steal a crafty victory one year ago when he slipstreamed a pack of seven riders separated by just 0.654 seconds across the finish line.

It could be just as close this weekend with the likes of local youngsters Dani Pedrosa, Pablo Nieto and Hector Barbera showing no respect to the championship chances of Vincent or Poggiali as they gun for home glory. Lucio Cecchinello will be looking to seal fourth place in the championship ahead of Steve Jenkner, while the likes of Joan Olive and Alex de Angelis will desperately want to add another podium to their collection.

125cc, 2002, Gran Premio Marlboro de la Comunitat Valenciana
