Alex Barros relishes new challenge with Yamaha

After an impressive display of form in the last four races of the season aboard the Honda RC211V, Alex Barros decided to join Gauloises Yamaha, as he was offered the opportunity to ride a factory YZR-M1 in next year´s MotoGP Championship. The brazilian rider made his debut with his new team and new machinery this week in Valencia, and was very enthusiastic after this first contact.

´I´m very happy. I already have posted good lap times, and I had the opportunity to work with Gilles Bigot, who worked with Crivillé in the past, and the rest of the team´ explained Barros. ´I´m pleased to help Yamaha, as they give me the opportunity to challenge for the title. I have the full support from the factory and that was the main point for me. I waited 16 years to get such an opportunity´. $$$Looking back on his blazing form in the late stages of season - he took two wins and two further podium finishes out of four races, Barros stresses that the change of machinery had obviously been decisive. ´As soon as I got the 4-stroke, I began to get the results. Before that, I had very good races with the 2-stroke, like in Assen where I finished in second, and Sachsenring, before my crash, but most of the races were very tough against the 4-strokes. You change the bike and the results come up´.
