Man versus machine as Héctor Barberá races Abraham Olano

The eternal struggle of man versus machine took an unusual twist last weekend when Héctor Barberá accepted a challenge from top Spanish cyclist Abraham Olano to a one off race. Olano bet the youngster he could do a lap of the La Alameda circuit on his push bike in the same time it took the 125cc rider to do two laps on his World Championship machine. The event served as an interesting side platter to the Criterium Internacional de la Comunidad Valenciana cycling competition at La Alameda. The head to head was decided over two legs and finished as a draw, with horsepower and manpower both taking a partial victory.

It is not the first time the Criterium has seen such battles. In a past event cyclist Claudio Chiapucci took on skater Sheila Herrero.
