Elit Grand Prix team move up to 250

The Elit Grand Prix team, who contested the 125cc World Championship with Jakub Smrz and Thomas Luthi in 2002, will contest the 250 and 125 series in 2003 with the same riders. Last season Czech Republic rider Smrz was replaced by Luthi after picking up a serious knee injury at Assen, but he returned to contest the final rounds of the season in 250 with the DeGraaf Racing Team after the Swiss teenager had proven to be an impressive deputy. Now he will contest a full quarter-litre season with his original team, with Luthi as his stable-mate aboard the 125. Both riders will be on Honda A-kit machinery.

`We have high hopes because they are two exciting riders but we do not want to put any pressure on Smrz or Luthi,´ said Elit Managing Director Daniel Epp. `We think Jakub is capable of the top fifteen but it is his first full season in the class and we will not push him too hard. Thomas is still very young and it will be his first full World Championship so his target is to learn as much as possible and I think finish in the top 20. We are hoping for the odd good race from him but no great result in particular. This team is only in its second year so we are all hoping to make good progress in 2003.´
