A new number for Bayliss in 2003

Troy Bayliss has revealed that he will be wearing a new number for him in the 2003 MotoGP World Championship, as he swaps his customary #21 for #12. The Australian had hoped to ride with #21, but that number belongs to new Suzuki recruit John Hopkins, so the Ducati man was forced to think of an alternative.

`I wanted to keep #21 but can you imagine someone coming into Superbike and asking me to give it up?´ said Bayliss. `So next year I´m #12 and in the last three years I´ve been, #1, #2 and #21, so it´s just 21 backwards. I sort of wanted #32 as I won the British Championship with that, but anyway, I´m #12 from now on. When it comes down to it, it´s only really a number, it´s not that important, but I reckon it´ll look pretty good.´

Bayliss has been in Europe for the last few weeks testing the Ducati Desmosedici, but is looking forward to returning to his native Australia in the next couple of weeks. `Once I get home I´ve got a few things planned. We´ve got four of five days tied up testing at Phillip Island, which I´m really looking forward to, and then I´m launching my new range of clothing and after that, I´ll either be at the beach, at a barbecue, on my bike or at the family´s house. That´s all I´m going to be doing for a few weeks, just relaxing and kicking back.´
