Nakano and Abe continue with Yamaha

Shinya Nakano and Norick Abe will remain Yamaha riders next year. Yamaha announced that Nakano will take part in the next MotoGP World Championship aboard a YZR-M1 fielded by Luis d´Antin. Nakano reached a one-year agreement as the sole rider of the Spanish team, which will be supported by the factory.

Norick Abe, who previously raced in the premier class with the D´Antin team, will continue with the Yamaha camp as a dedicated YZR-M1 test and development rider. The details of his program are still to be confirmed, but he will contest selected rounds as an official Yamaha factory wild-card entry.

Nakano took 11th overall in this year´s MotoGP World Championship, after clinching the ´Rookie of the Year´ title in 2001. He took part in the last three rounds of the Championship aboard the YZR-M1, and finished in sixth position for his first outing with the 4-stroke. Fellow Japanese rider Norick Abe took sixth overall. A heavy crash in Phillip Island delayed his 4-stroke debut to the race held in Valencia, where he finished tenth despite being injured.
