Locatelli confirms KTM deal

After protracted negotiations Roberto Locatelli has finally made the official announcement that he will ride for KTM in 2003. The Italian returns to the class in which he was crowned World Champion in 2000 as the Austrian factory make their debut in the competition. The agreement does not specify that Locatelli will be limited to just one season, or just one category, as the constructor looks to carry an ambitious project through to MotoGP by 2005.

`I am very happy with this new agreement and the chance to form part of a totally new project,´ said Locatelli. `The bike is still not ready, it will be constructed during December, but I am already looking ahead to February when we will begin the first tests´.

The former 125cc World Champion will be joined by the current title holder Arnaud Vincent, forming a formidable team. `What can you say about a World Champion that isn´t already known?´ says Locatelli. `I am delighted to be forming a partnership with Vincent. He is fast and very capable. KTM are already proving that they want to enter this series in a big way. Their plan is to contest the 125cc World Championship with two champions and that is evidence that they are not there to make up the numbers – their expectations are without doubt very high´.
