Poggiali to make Aprilia debut in Jerez test

Former 125cc World Champion Manuel Poggiali will make his Aprilia 250 debut later this week in private tests at the Jerez circuit in Spain. The former Gilera man will be the main attraction at factory tests set to be held from the 17-19 January.

Poggiali contested the 125cc World Championship with the Italian manufacturer in 1999, when he finished in seventeenth place overall with a total of 46 points and a best finish of seventh place in Rio. Now the teenager from San Marino returns to defend the quarter-litre title won by Marco Melandri.

Still one month short of his 20th birthday, Poggiali already has an impressive record, which reads seven victories and 22 podiums as well as the 2001 world title in the 125 class. Now he will be aiming to emulate his predecessor Melandri as one of the youngest ever quarter-litre World Champions in history.
