Max Sabbatani ready to begin testing with Abruzzo

After a season destroyed by bad luck and injury, Max Sabbatani is this weekend hoping to open a fresh new chapter in his career with the Abruzzo team. The Italian outfit, directed by the Cerigioni brothers, last season ran Steve Jenkner and Gino Borsoi together and for 2003 they will be teaming up Sabbatani with experienced compatriot Stefano Perugini.

The pint-sized pilot, who finished last season in 25th place, is looking forward to putting a nightmare 2002 behind him, starting at factory tests down in Jerez this weekend. `Hopefully last season and everything it brought with it is firmly in the past,´ he said. `I have just come back from Germany, where I have spent some time with my girlfriend, who is German, and I am ready to fly down to Jerez. At the moment I am also making other plans for next year, like my helmet, leathers and things, and on Friday I will be on the bike for the first time this year´.

`I am really happy to have joined a team as good as this one and delighted to be riding an official Aprilia. My chief mechanic will be Andrea Orlandi and I will have Stefano Perugini as my team-mate. He is a very fast rider and I already have a very good friendship with him. In Italy we live around 200kms apart but we see each other quite regularly. Hopefully 2003 will go a lot better for me and I can be back in the top positions again´.
