Olivier Jacque ready for classic Rally challenge

Another MotoGP pilot is ready to test his hand behind the wheel of a rally car in the next few weeks when Yamaha´s Olivier Jacque announced that he will compete for the first time in the Historic Monte Carlo rally as part of the Alpine Renault squad.

Jacque follows the lead of World Champion Valentino Rossi who enjoyed a brief foray in the RAC Rally of Britain, even it is at a slightly slower speed. The sixth edition of the French race is set to occur between February 1st and 5th, in which drivers get to compete in a series of special stages with a range of old classic automobiles from the 60s and 70s.

The Frenchman who has a day job riding for the Gauloises Yamaha Tech3 explained: `For me classic cars are a passion and to be able to compete in this event is a wonderful thing. I owe it to Eric Comas who invited me to be a part of the Alpine Renault team and I´m sure will inspire me because he competed in the actual Monte Carlo rally 30 years ago. I will be driving an Alpine Renault Berlinette A110, with R16 TX vehicles for assistance and, like they had back then, Saviem trucks in attendance. I understand when they say these cars are very old and valuable; of that I have no doubt and have to be careful! For the first time I have had a gap in my winter training programme which has allowed me to do this and I'm really looking forward to it. I can imagine the scene now: leaving Mónaco, rolling through the stages in Ardèche and the night of celebrations in Turin. Honestly, I think 2003 will start well and hopefully only get better.´
