Stefano Bianco ready for official duty

Stefano Bianco has completed his first kilometres aboard the official Gilera machine which he hopes will carry him to 125cc World Championship glory in 2003. After completing his first full season in the series riding an Aprilia last year, the Italian was signed to replace former World Champion Manuel Poggiali in the factory structure which is looking to regain the crown after losing out to Arnaud Vincent and Aprilia in 2002.

´To be in this team, with factory support behind me, is very important for me and my objective is to return this faith with good results,´ said Bianco in Jerez this weekend. `The first contact with the bike has been very positive. I like it and I think it has a lot of potential. Now it is a case of running up as many kilometres as possible before the start of the season so I can get used to it and get the set-up just right´.

The youngster gained a reputation as a crasher in his first season but he insists this is a closed chapter in his career. ´My crashes last season were simply through my efforts to do well and the fact that the machinery I had would go no faster. This will be my second full year in the World Championship and I know that I will have to learn quickly and combine this process with top results´.

125cc, 2003, Stefano Bianco
