Joan Olivé building up for his next test on the 250

My first test on the 250 was before Christmas down in Valencia and I was really pleased with how things went. I had probably outgrown the 125 and I think that showed in my results last year, because I was carrying a lot more weight than most of the other riders, like my team-mate Dani Pedrosa. That has a big effect on such a small bike, particularly in terms of top speed, so I felt very positive about the switch to the 250 and even though I know it will be a difficult year it is one I am looking forward to greatly.

As well as getting used to a new bike, I also have to get used to a new team, but after just one test I can see this will not be a problem. My most trusted mechanic, who I have worked with ever since I began racing in my home town of Tarragona, has been brought into the technical staff and I am very happy to be with him again. I met my new team-mate Hector Faubel down in Valencia too and even though he was in the World Championship last season it was the first time I had ever spoken to him properly. He seems like a really nice guy and I am sure we can work well together this year.

The next test is not until the beginning of next month, on the 5-6 February back in Valencia, so for the moment my preparations for the new season are limited to my own physical training programme. Of course, this is an important part of this winter period because I need to be much stronger to ride the 250, so I have been doing plenty of weight training and I am feeling the benefits already. Aside from that I have been out on my push-bike every day building up my stamina and I also went to the Baqueira ski resort for a few days which was a nice break. I enjoy my training routine, but I can´t wait to get back on the bike!
