Roby Rolfo ready to get back on the RSW

After a nice rest over Christmas and a shakedown test at Valencia in the first week of January I am now well into my physical training programme and ready for the next set of tests back at the Ricardo Tormo circuit on the 25-26 January. I spent the holidays mainly in the mountains with my girlfriend - we stayed at my house in Switzerland almost the whole time, although I went home to see my family in Torino on Christmas Day. After all that travelling around the world during the season it is nice to stay in one place for a while! In the meantime I have been training every day, jogging, cycling and doing a bit of skiing. I really enjoy skiing but of course I have to be pretty careful because it is quite a dangerous sport and I don´t want to injure myself!

I am looking forward to getting back on the motorcycle this weekend though – as you know I will be riding the new RSW version this season instead of the NSR and I was very impressed with what I saw at Valencia. We had bad weather on the second day but on the first day we tested a prototype frame which gave great feeling. The areas which I had most problems with the NSR were on the front end and also the riding position, and both these were much better with the RSW.

It was a lot easier for me to change my shape on the bike, which is obviously a great help when you are trying to turn through the corners. We used the standard engine that Aoki had used throughout the season, which is less powerful than the NSR, but we will have a completely new engine in place soon and this should make for an excellent all-round package.

With so many preparations to make for the new season it is hard for me to keep up my studies, but I am doing my best to revise for two exams which I hope to take in March. I have already completed modules in Italian regional dialect and English literature, and now I am hoping to pass French and Spanish Literature. It will be difficult to fit in the study time but hopefully I will have the chance to do plenty of reading in February before the IRTA tests.
