Five hopefuls in final to find new Red Bull Rookie

The Red Bull Rookie project which aims to give British youngsters a pathway into top level Grand Prix racing hosts its final selection day in Cartagena, Spain, next month. One of five young hopefuls will have the unique opportunity to join the 125cc team and contest a season in the British Championship. Current Red Bull Rookies, Guy Farbrother and Midge Smart, who clinched wildcard rides at Donington for the British Grand Prix last season, will be joined on the track by young hopefuls Ashley Beech (14), Barry Burrell (16), Daniel Cooper (14), Jonathan Rea (15) and Michael Robertson (14), who qualified from 20 semi-finalists at Rockingham Speedway in December last year.

The top rider from the five will then stay on to test with Farbrother, Smart and the rest of the team before embarking on the first race of the season at Silverstone in March. `All the lads have shown great commitment,´ said Red Bull Rookie Team Manager Robin Appleyard, who himself contested the 125cc World Championship throughout the late 1980s and early 90s. `It was a difficult task selecting the final five and it will be even harder to make the final selection´.
