Johan Stigefelt preparing to drive from Sweden to Jerez

I have spent the last few weeks since our first test of the New Year back in Sweden. I had some promotional work to do for Aprilia Scandinavia and things for other sponsors but this weekend I am preparing to head back down to my base in Sitges, near Barcelona. It will probably takes us a couple of days to get there because myself and my girlfriend Carolina will be travelling down by car. It is a long journey but I don´t mind it too much and I guess we will have to get used to it because that is how we´ll be travelling to most of the races this year.

We will probably only have one night in Sitges before we have to get back in the car for another long trip, down to Jerez for the first IRTA tests. I am really looking forward to the test because it will be our first time with all the new material from Aprilia. When we were at Jerez in January it was with the standard bike and it was my first time back on a 250 in over two years, so it was not that easy.

Our chief mechanic, Mauro Noccioli, explained that the important thing was just to get as many laps as possible and not worry about times, which was great because now I feel well prepared to give it maximum effort leading up to the season. I was actually only 1.5 seconds off my best ever times down there but, like I say, the important thing is that we now have some good references to work from and we know which direction to go in over the next couple of months.

Of course, we will be attending all three IRTA tests, at Jerez, Estoril and Catalunya, and then hopefully we will have another private Aprilia test at Mugello in March before the first race of the season at Suzuka.
