Mike Di Meglio joins the teenage rampage

Mike Di Meglio is the latest schoolboy rookie to make the step up to 125cc World Championship, joining a teenage rampage which already includes the likes of Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Hector Barbera, Alex de Angelis and Andrea Dovizioso. The French 15 year old shot to international prominence last year when he finished third in the final round of the Spanish Championship and was snapped up for Grand Prix duty by the Free Soul Racing Team. This week he completed his first official test alongside World Championship competition, and admitted it was a strange sensation to lap behind some of his heroes.

`It is all going very well, it was all very exciting for me at the IRTA test,´ smiled the amiable youngster at the end of the two day Jerez test. `It was weird at first, when I first went out, it´s like I wasn´t really here with all these other riders. But I suppose I am, and it´s going well. On the track I feel at home and comfortable. Every time that a rider passed me I followed their rear tyre, and I´m learning a lot from them. $$$

The prodigious teenager, who won the French Championship on a Honda last season, was pleased with his new machine and revealed that he can improve on 24th place at the test when the championship starts at Suzuka. `I definitely prefer the Aprilia to the Honda I rode in France. It´s much more suited to my riding style. The team has worked very well on it, and it is running well. I prefer more technical circuits, and those blind corners, that´s where my strengths lie.
