Davies hoping to shake off illness as he heads for Estoril

Chaz Davies is currently on his way to Estoril for the second IRTA test of the preseason hoping he can shake off a mystery illness which kept him out of the final two days in Jerez at the weekend. The British youngster was ninth quickest on the first day but complained of a swollen neck during the afternoon and woke up with a fever on Saturday morning. He reluctantly sat out the session under the advice of GP medic Doctor Costa and his Aprilia Germany team boss Dieter Stappert and then suffered a recurrence of the feverish symptoms on Saturday night which ruled him out of Sunday´s action.

`I was lapping really well and feeling comfortable on Friday morning but my leathers just got tighter around my throat – as if someone was pouring sand down my neck,´ explained the 16 year old. `On Saturday I felt terrible but I would have ridden if Mr Stappert didn´t step in. The track was not great and the other riders were crashing quite a lot, so he did not want to risk me picking up a serious injury by riding at anything less than 100 percent fitness. Hopefully I will be okay for Estoril because it will be our last test before Suzuka and I have only got a few kilometres under my belt on the 250.´
