BQR Honda optimistic despite poor times in Estoril

The Honda BQR team yesterday concluded the second official IRTA tests of the preseason after two tough days in Estoril. The Spanish team, directed by Raúl Romero, worked on the chassis and suspension set-ups of their Hondas as Alex Debón and Eric Bataille struggled to make any ground on the top Aprilias, with Debón the fastest of the pair but still some 3 seconds slower than Randy De Puniet.

`I was expecting better lap times but I am aware that with the work we have completed on the new chassis we will need more time,´ commented Romero. `I think we are on the right track and we will have sufficient time to put things right in the remaining tests before the start of the season.´

Bataille was sixth tenths slower than Debon, but remained optimistic after trying the new chassis for the first time. `I went quite well in the wet with the new suspension but I am still adapting,´ said the Frenchman.

$$$ `In the dry we worked to find a base from where we can look to improve, particularly on the rear end because I have had problems when opening the throttle. I tried the new chassis at the end of the final day and it felt like a completely new bike. I felt much more comfortable because it is more stable, especially on the brakes and on the gas. We have three days left to test and I think I will be prepared when we get to Suzuka.

Meanwhile Debón was also positive about the performance of the chassis. `On the first day I was trying lots of things and we found a good wet set-up. We needed dry time and finally on the last day we got it. At the end I was able to ride comfortably and gather some useful conclusions. I made a mistake on a fast lap and wasn´t able to set a fast time but I know that we are progressing. We have planned more tests and I am motivated to continue working.
