Injured West to enter Italian hospital for back brace

Anthony West will enter hospital in Italy tomorrow to have a back brace fitted to speed up his recovery from injuries sustained when he crashed during the 250cc IRTA test session in Portugal four days ago. West suffered a cracked vertebrae when he crashed during the second and final day of the test at the Estoril track. The 21-year-old has revealed he will be hospitalised in Florence for three days and expects to be recovered in time to ride in a planned test at Mugello on March 25.

`I was high-sided off the bike and landed heavily,´ explained West, who was fifth fastest on the opening day of the Estoril session and crashed on his 18th lap the following day. `It was one of the worst crashes I´ve had and I was winded for a long time afterwards. I will be in hospital for three days to have the brace put on my back and I will be back to full fitness in a couple of weeks. Fortunately I wont miss any races.´
