I´m in Italy at the moment, visiting the Aprilia factory and sorting out a couple of final details to do with sponsorship and stuff. We also bought a trailer out here and tomorrow we´ll be driving down to Barcelona, to our motorhome at Alberto Puig´s ranch where I´ll be based once again this season. It has been a really busy winter - well, winter and summer for me because I´ve spent a lot of time down in Australia.

It was really nice to be at home for a while with my family and friends after my first full season in Grand Prix. It was tough been away for so long but I made the most of my time back there, doing lots of fishing and I even learnt how to waterski. It is such a cool sport and the best thing is it doesn´t even hurt when you fall! It´s better than real skiing too because you have nice warm water around you instead of all that freezing snow.

$$$ I´ve been back in Europe for three weeks now though and I´m really missing home already. Still, we have got through plenty of work with the IRTA tests and I am really happy to be on a competitive bike. I guess ideally I would have preferred to stay in 250 but this move gives me a real chance of being consistently at the front and that has to be my aim this year. A win would be nice too! Seriously though, I rode 125s for two years before starting in GP and I know what it´s about, and I know that this is a fast bike with a good chance of success.

I have spent the last few days doing some supermotard riding here in Italy with some friends, which was great fun, but it is back to the serious stuff next week at Valencia. We will be there for a two day test, our last session before the start of the season at Suzuka, so it will be very important to make sure we have everything set-up and in place to be competitive at the first race. Between Suzuka and Welkom I will be going back to Oz for a couple of weeks, and after all the cold weather we´ve had in Europe over the last couple of weeks I´m looking forward to some sunshine!
