Loris Capirossi ready for the Italian challenge

After three seasons in the shadows of high profile feuding between Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi believes he is ready to step into the spotlight as Italy´s number one. After an intense winter of testing with the Ducati Desmosedici, the diminutive Italian is preparing himself to take on the role of title challenger to the Honda duo, and says the factory which has dominated the SBK series in recent years is making a smooth adaptation to prototype racing.

`It is a massive step for Ducati but they have shown how committed they are to it with the work they have put in over the winter,´ said the former 250cc World Champion ahead of the MotoGP Winter Test face off which starts on Saturday. `It has been hard but we are already at a competitive stage and we have shown that in the recent tests. We anticipate some problems over the first half of the season but we will be up there challenging the top guys sooner rather than later.´

`For me it is an incredible honour to be an Italian riding for Ducati in this series. In fact, it should be a brilliant season for Italian racing in general. We have three World Champions on factory machines and it will be very interesting to see how it works out. I just hope it is the combination of myself and the Ducati that comes out best! It will be a great season and we are confident we can contribute with at least one victory.´
